Darron Gibson's stunning strike against Peterborough has been voted Goal of the Month by ManUtd.com users – and the Reds midfielder hopes fans will see more of the same from him this season.
Gibson was thrilled to learn he had picked up 38% of the votes in our poll for his 30-yard effort in United's 2-0 pre-season friendly victory last month.
Darren Fletcher's equaliser against Newcastle came second with 19%, closely followed by Fraizer Campbell's winner in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's testimonial against Espanyol (18%).
"It’s not a bad award to win!" Gibson told ManUtd.com. "It’s nice for my goal to be recognised and picked above the others, especially when it was in pre-season because fewer fans would have seen it."
Gibson had been on the field at London Road less than a minute when he brought down Lee Martin's pass and crashed home a superb half-volley with his left foot. Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson said after the game that the 20-year-old had "fantastic feet" and should shoot more often, and Gibson is keen to heed that advice.
"I’ve been working on my shot for the past few years in training because I am quite powerful when I strike the ball," he added. "I know I should get forward and shoot more, so I’m working on it and hopefully we’ll see a bit more of it this season."
